Hungary is on the verge of banning artificial meat
Next week, the National Assembly will continue its work with a five-day session, where, in addition to several economic and commercial proposals, the possible ban on artificially produced meat – colloquially known as “artificial meat” – will also be on the agenda. The decision could bring significant changes to the food industry, catering and retail chains alike.
The plenary session will begin on Monday afternoon, where members of parliament will discuss the proposal to ban the sale of artificial meat among committee reports. According to the proposal:
-
all meat substitutes or cultured meat produced in laboratory conditions could be banned,
-
the regulation could also affect the production, import and commercial distribution of artificially produced meat intended for human consumption,
-
the ban aims to protect traditional food production methods.
The vote on the meat-based product issue will take place on Tuesday, when the final vote on the proposal is on the plenary agenda.
