China overtook the United States in energy consumption
According to the datas of the International Energy Agency (IEA); China consumes the most energy on Earth. China took the leadership, from the previous world leader the United States last year.
China consumed energy equivalent to 2252 million tonnes of oil in 2009, which is roughly 4 percent more than the 2,170 tonnes of U.S. consumption. In 2000, the United States consumed twice as much energy as China. In 2008, the United States led by only 150 tonnes, while last year China took over the first place – reports Népszabadság Online.
