Nine students won K&H’s 2022 scholarship competition for sustainable agriculture
For the eighth time, K&H awarded young agricultural professionals who are researching new, innovative opportunities for environmental protection, circular economy, chemical reduction, and biodiversity conservation; this year, nine students won the award – Kereskedelmi és Hitelbank (K&H) told MTI on Wednesday.
According to the announcement, agriculture is facing increasingly serious challenges: inflation, the increase in energy costs, the lack of suitable labor, last year’s drought, and now the extremely mild winter weather are causing difficulties for farmers. In addition, the K&H agricultural index, which shows the expectations of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in the agricultural and food industry, has been decreasing since the second quarter of 2021, standing at 7 points compared to the average value of around 20 points in recent years. The outlook is also worsened by the fact that purchase prices will rise significantly for the next production cycle, which is why the working capital needs of agriculture are more intense, they said. Zoltán Demeter, head of the K&H Agricultural Development Department, emphasized that in this situation, the necessary investments cannot be postponed, because companies can only produce more efficiently, sustainably and in line with consumer needs with modern, innovative tools. Young agricultural professionals open to sustainability and innovations have a decisive role in its implementation and application.
Since 2015, K&H has been awarding and supporting the studies and research of students participating in domestic agricultural education
The novelty of the 2022 application is that the institution nominating the most successful students also received recognition. Éva Kiss Nikolett won first place in the PhD category, Evelin Török took second place, both from the Doctoral School of Animal Husbandry Sciences of the University of Debrecen, and László Kaszás from the Kálmán Kerpely Doctoral School of the University of Debrecen took third place.
