Sales of all other categories declined, including chocolate bars (-8%), desserts (-5%) and biscuits (-2%). The Hungarian confectionery market continued adapting to global and domestic challenges in 2024. With stagnating volume sales, value sales augmented by roughly 7%. Meanwhile, dramatic fluctuations in raw material prices, rising energy costs, labour shortages and elevating packaging material prices have all put pressure on manufacturers. Domestic producers are building on traditional values but are constantly innovating to satisfy changing consumer demands with new flavours, textures and formats. Looking ahead to 2025, the sector expects a stable but still challenging period.
