Last year was a good one for wholesalers too
In 2017 not only retailers had a good year, but also the wholesalers that serve both the retail and the Horeca segments. Wholesalers sold products for HUF 1,000-1,200 billion to Horeca partners and same to the independent retailers.

There are about 150-200 FMCG wholesalers in Hungary, and most of them realise sales below the HUF 10-billion threshold. The biggest market player is Metro with gross HUF 185-billion sales in 2017. It is noteworthy that Horeca partners realised 60 percent of sales by drink wholesalers. We are also introducing one of our partners that neither buys nor sells, still it is one of the biggest wholesalers as the majority of fresh produce are sold on their premises – we are talking about the Budapest Wholesale Market.
Wholesalers are different from one another in many respects, e.g. customers – some of them only serve independent retailers, while others sell to Horeca partners. Some wholesalers specialise in drinks, others work with fresh or non-food products. They can also be categorised based on their operating area (East, Central or West Hungary). We are presenting wholesalers in alphabetic order, with gross sales data from 2016 and 2017 – these were provided by the companies themselves. //
