In January, the increase in food prices moderated to 5.7 percent in France
In France, the annual consumer price increase slowed to 3.1 percent in January from 3.7 percent in December, the French statistical office INSEE announced as preliminary data on Wednesday.
In a monthly comparison, a decrease of 0.2 percent was measured in January, following an increase of 0.1 percent in December.
In January, the increase in food prices decreased to 5.7 percent from 7.2 percent in December, the increase in energy prices decreased from 5.7 percent to 1.8 percent, and the increase in the price of industrial products slowed down from 1.4 percent to 0.7 percent. Services rose in price by 3.2 percent after 3.1 percent in December.
The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP), calculated for EU comparison purposes, slowed down to 3.4 percent in January from 4.1 percent in December in an annual comparison, and a 0.2 percent decrease was registered on a monthly basis after the 0.1 percent increase in December.
