New cage EU standard cages will cost 20 billion for the Hungarian egg producers
At the end of the week the Egg Festival will be held in Siófok, where one can learn everything about the “most simple canned” food. But there is not much cause for celebration for the Hungarian egg producers. They cosider themselves as the losers of the EU accession, because the sector should spend 20 billion HUF on the modernization of the plants until 2012.
Földi Péter, vice president of the Hungarian Egg Association told to Népszabadság, that it is almost sure that one-third of the 353 million chicken of the EU will remain in their old cages, even if the European Commission requests its original date of transition. In Hungary the situation is similar. The transition costs huge amount of money – reports Népszabadság Online.
