Lawsuits may also take place due to the GMO ban
Neither the Constitution nor the recent amendment of the genetic engineering law is not capable to prevent from the Hungarian appearance of the genetically modified organisms (GMOs) – Darvas Béla Honorary Professor, president of the GMO Roundtable told agrárszektor.hu.
It is easier to ban the public production at national level, but as feed and ready food, products containing GMOs can continue to come legally into the country, in addition the “not properly justified prohibitions” can result in lawsuits. The large international trade agreements can benefit the propagation of GMOs, but Darvas Béla said that the GMOs do not endanger the health of the population, no sufficient scientific evidence is available on the matter, so not all GM crops should be rejected without careful consideration and study.
