GKID research: We spend less, but order more online before Christmas
Although the number of online orders is increasing spectacularly compared to last year’s data, this is largely due to the rise of foreign e-traders, according to GKID’s current e-commerce survey and forecast for this year’s Christmas season. Even if the value of the ordered products decreases, the number of shipments is expected to increase further.
“Like last year, it is expected that the growth dynamics of the fourth quarter of this year will also bring 9-10 percent in e-commerce, but all of this will definitely mean a decrease in real terms. Due to under-purchasing and the smaller number of baskets, the average basket value is expected to nominally stagnate during the season, but the frequency of purchases will increase”
– summed up Norbert Madar, GKID’s senior consultant. According to the company’s survey, domestic online retailers are somewhat more optimistic than this and expect a turnover increase of 10-12 percent – which would still not reach the level of inflation.
