Can we be hopeful?
Here we are in our little country that is the centre of the world for us, but sometimes we forget that it is only us who feel this way. Therefore it would be useful if sometimes we were thinking with the heads of others and calculate with what others think about us, how they view us and what we can expect from them.
If we know what their opinion is, we can come up with different scenarios accordingly…When discussing whether the IMF agreement would happen or not came the idea to organise another Business Dinner, our forum for company executives. We asked two economists, Péter Róna and György Zdeborsky to participate in the event at Hotel Ramada at the end of April. However, in the last two days before the dinner great changes occurred and news surfaced that we started walking down ‘that road’. If the USA and other powerful countries on the IMF board vote with yes and the proportion of positive answers reach 51 percent, we will have the opportunity to start talks with the monetary fund. At the moment there are way too many ‘if’s’ and let’s not forget that we should first write our application for loan, justify it credibly and make it clear how much money we need. If the response is positive and we get the loan from IMF, the next step should be preparing for the inspections and using the loan for implementing long-term goals. From what we heard at the Business Dinner it became absolutely clear that our priority has to be producing goods with high added value. We have to find solutions where a foreign trade surplus can be kept in balance with supporting the growth of internal consumption. You can read in detail about the discussion in the next issue of Trade magazin, at trademagazin.hu and the debate will continue between 26 and 28 September, at our Business Days conference in Tapolca.
