Farm Tojás Kft.’s eggs are safe for consumption
Farm Tojás Kft., one of Hungary’s leading egg producers and distributors, celebrates its 30th birthday this year. Unfortunately, in the last few weeks eggs were covered in the news in connection with the Fipronil scandal: eggs have been infected with pesticide in the Netherlands – told Dr Tamás Kertész, the owner of Farm Tojás Kft. In Hungary contaminated eggs were only found at a few producers and these were called back from shops immediately.

No such pesticide was used on the premises of the Farm Tojás Group and this has been proven by laboratory tests too. Eggs also arrive at Farm Tojás Kft.’s packaging plant from the premises of other producers, but these suppliers have guaranteed that they didn’t use Fipronil containing pesticides either.
65 percent of egg consumed in Hungary is produced domestically and 35 percent is imported from other EU countries. Mr Kertész believes that it is a very important task for egg producers and sellers to restore the prestige of eggs in Hungary, and to represent the sector’s interests efficiently. Egg’s price needs to be stabilised and egg production has to be made profitable. These steps can’t be taken without cooperation. Hungarian egg consumption had been decreasing for years, but finally this trend turned around.
Egg is an essential food because it contains important fats, amino acids and vitamins. Premium eggs are also marketed under the Farm Tojás brand name: these functional products contain much more essential components than the average egg. It is enough to mention eggs with vitamin E, Omega-3 fatty acids or GMO-free eggs; the top category is Organic eggs. In the future the company plans to go in the direction of more animal-friendly deep litter egg production. (x)
