The process that will determine the future agricultural existence of Europe is the protest of the German farmers – said Minister of Agriculture István Nagy on Wednesday on the current channel M1 in response to the demonstration of the German farmers.

German farmers are protesting against the reduction of agricultural subsidies, such as the abolition of motor vehicle tax exemptions for agricultural vehicles, and the reduction of tax incentives for diesel fuels. István Nagy called it amazing that the German chancellor still considers the support of Ukraine a priority, while farmers in his country are facing significant problems and food sovereignty is also at risk. It can be seen that the internal market of the European Union has been turned upside down, because while European farmers have to produce under strict conditions, the European Union has opened its markets to Ukraine, where no rules have to be followed – explained the Minister of Agriculture. According to the head of the ministry, Hungarian farmers are in solidarity with German farmers and look at their struggle with hope. István Nagy noted that in Brussels, in the Council of Agriculture Ministers, they are fighting a struggle similar to that of German farmers. He emphasized: the balance between the preservation of the natural world, the competitiveness of farmers and ensuring the EU’s supply of quality food cannot be broken.

Radio Kossuth Good morning, Hungary! in his programme, the Minister of Agriculture explained: the agriculture of the European Union has never been so “ideologically imbued”

Professional aspects are pushed aside and only green aspects are taken forward – he believed. According to István Nagy, German farmers are right to say that we must return to normality. It is not possible to put a disproportionately large burden on the European farming community, and all European farmers are hurt by the ideological statement that agriculture is mostly responsible for climate change, he said. According to him, it is no longer necessary to talk about Ukrainian farmers, but about those large capital investment companies, including Americans, Dutch, Germans and Saudis, which bought significant land in Ukraine, and they need the safe European market. “All this is dressed up in a green ideology, and they also cause European farmers to feel guilty,” said István Nagy.
