One drop closer to health: this is how daily fluid replacement can be exciting
Inadequate hydration can cause headaches, fatigue and concentration problems, yet many people do not drink enough fluids, because in many cases drinking water feels monotonous, or they do not want to add extra calories to their body with sugary drinks. How can we make liquid consumption more exciting without introducing sugars or sweeteners into our bodies? The National Association of Hungarian Dietitians recommends alternatives that make fluid replacement a healthy and exciting experience at the same time, even for people following different diets.
Almost everyone is aware of the importance of adequate hydration, yet many struggle with the fact that their daily fluid intake does not reach the optimal level. An adult’s body contains 60 percent water, which is not only the main component of the cells that make up the body, but also participates in countless biochemical processes: it regulates body temperature, maintains proper blood pressure, supports digestion, but also plays a vital role in maintaining physical and mental performance. too.
Fluid deficiency and its consequences
“An adult’s daily fluid requirement is on average 2-2.5 liters1, which is made up of the food and drinks consumed during the day. If the fluid introduced into the body is permanently less than this amount, we can already feel its negative effects in the short term”
– draws attention to the MDOSZ expert, dietician Dr. Erzsébet Pálfi. The first signs of dehydration include headaches, fatigue, reduced concentration and impaired mental performance. Even with a 2 percent fluid loss, physical performance can be significantly reduced, and long-term dehydration can lead to many health problems, such as the formation of kidney stones.
