Magazine: Spirits 2019
Extending the public health product tax (NETA) to spirits in 2015 entailed a 20-30 percent price increase in the category. Sales were also affected negatively by the law that allowed pálinka distilling at home. What is more, the spreading of the health trend causes sales reduction too, as more and more consumers choose wines or beer instead. In the spirits category whisky has performed well recently, mainly bourbon varieties and Irish whiskies. Gin sales are also developing well, although this is a smaller segment. //
