There will be a wage agreement – said the state secretary responsible for employment policy of the Ministry of National Economy on the current channel M1 on Tuesday.

Sándor Czomba indicated that the negotiations are still ongoing, a lot was done on Monday in order to reach an agreement.

The employer side wants to achieve a minimum wage increase of 8, 10, 12 percent, and the employee side of 10, 12, 14 percent in the next three years, the state secretary said, adding that they would leave the institution of the guaranteed minimum wage, which will be discussed annually.

He emphasized that “some important pillars have been knocked down”, among other things, that by January 1, 2027, they would like the minimum wage to reach 50 percent of the expected regular gross average earnings at that time. This can be achieved in several ways, even if next year’s growth is 8 percent or 10 percent, but it doesn’t matter whether it will be HUF 355 thousand or HUF 375 thousand – he noted.

Sándor Czomba highlighted that if they want to achieve the goal of a minimum wage of one thousand euros by January 1, 2028, and a gross average salary of around one million forints, then a 10, 12, 14 percent increase is needed in the next three years, which is an average of 12 percent increase.

210,000-220,000 people receive the minimum wage, the pushing effect of the increase has a very serious effect on those above them, he noted.

The state secretary believed that employers are afraid of what can be seen this year, that the minimum wage has increased by 15 percent, and average earnings are also increasing by around 12-13 percent, and they feel that this pace is fast.
