“Sugar tourists” in Slovakia
Sugar is cheaper in Slovakia with 30-70 HUF per kilo, therefore, growing number of the residents of the Hungarian-Slovak border are going to buy granulated sugar in Slovakian stores – reports MTI.
The retail price of a kilo sugar climbed well above 300 HUF in recent weeks, and has reached shortage in the world market also, so experts say that it will be more expensive in the rest of the year. In Hungary more than 300 thousand tons of sugar consumed annually, and the on the basis of the quota, Hungary produces 105 thousand tons, so at least 200 thousand tons of sugar need to be imported from abroad – reports agromonitor.hu.
