The sense of job stability has decreased among young people
A decline is visible among working young people: only 51 percent considered their jobs to be sufficiently stable in the first quarter of 2025, which is a decrease compared to the last quarter of the previous year and falls short of the long-term average of the K&H Youth Index. In addition, there is plenty of room for improvement in terms of esteem, as the situation could also improve in terms of career prospects.
Working young people see their own situation a little more negatively in terms of the stability of their jobs, as can be seen from the first quarter results of the K&H Youth Index. Many people still miss esteem.
Fall to 51 percent
The most important result is that 51 percent of young people in employment feel secure in their position. This is a decline compared to the 59 percent rate measured in the last quarter of last year, and it also falls short of the long-term average of 56 percent in the survey, which has been conducted every quarter since 2012. There were peaks of over 70 percent at the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2020, but we have also seen results below 50 percent, for example in 2013.
What is really missing?
The stability of a given job is one thing, but the survey also regularly examines how much young people feel appreciated in the workplace. There is plenty of room for improvement here in both the short and long term, as in the first quarter of this year only 41 percent reported that they appreciate their work. Looking at the previous results of the research, this indicator has never been above 50 percent, in the previous quarter the rate was 42 percent, and a year ago it was 38 percent, meaning that the current data essentially corresponds to stagnation.
According to the partial results of the current research, 21 percent said that they do not feel appreciated at all, meaning that a fifth of young people working see this issue quite negatively. Meanwhile, 38 percent said that the situation was average, meaning they did not feel respected, but they did not have a bad experience either.
