The number of hyper-rich has decreased
The group of high net worth individuals (HNWI), i.e. the hyper-rich, decreased last year. Regionally, North America (46%) and the Asia-Pacific region (32%) have the largest share of the global high net worth, based on wealth value and population size.
The steepest decline in the last ten years is shown by the camp of the hyper-rich[1] (HNWI-high net worth individual), which shrank by 3.3% to 21.7 million in 2022, while the value of their assets decreased by 3.6% to 83 trillion dollars decreased. In geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainty, North America continues to maintain its leading position, according to Capgemini’s latest Global Wealth Research (WWR).
The decline in wealth was steepest in North America (7.4%), followed by Europe (3.2%) and the Asia Pacific region (2.7%). In contrast, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East proved resilient as they recorded financial growth in 2022 thanks to the strong performance of the oil and gas sector.
