The proportion of smokers decreased in the EU
The proportion of smokers decreased by two percentage points, from 28 to 26 percent, compared to 2012 in the European Union – according to the lastest Eurobarometer survey.
According to the communication of the European Commission, the proportion of smokers decreased the most among the 15-24 age group, from 29 percent to 25 percent.
In addition, most people are smoking in the southern countries of the Union. While in Sweden and in Finland 11 and 19 percent of the population smoke cigarettes, this ratio is 38 percentin Greece and 35 percent in Bulgaria. (Konsiczky Zoltán, MTI)
