Between 26 and 28 February 2018 members of the Guild of Hungarian Confectioners gathered for their 22nd annual conference in Hunguest Hotel Forrás in Szeged. In the morning of the first day 28 companies showcased their products and services. In the afternoon the general meeting took place. László Selmeczi, managing director and vice president of the guild spoke about the things achieved last year, and about this year’s new goals and tasks.

He stressed that the guild’s presidency welcomes the VAT cut, but would like to add that only a comprehensive VAT reduction could bring more palpable positive results. In the last few years almost 240 Hungarian confectioners had the chance to go on international study trips. Famous foreign masters such as Andrea Pansa from Italy and Denis Matyasy from France visited Hungary to teach at master’s courses. In cooperation with the Hungarian Museum of Trade and Tourism, the guild’s has had a successful project, called Contemporary Confectionery – Éva Vojteck chats with invited guests and the audience can taste sweet delicacies.

For the protection of consumers and those confectioners who do high quality work, the guild has set up an ice cream working committee. At the end of May the Ice Cream of the Year contest was organised. Confectioners had many opportunities to meet and discuss matters on trade days.
The Guild of Hungarian Confectioners has new headquarters, where there is a room dedicated for demonstration and education work. As the lack of skilled workers is a great problem in the sector, the guild does its best to help the trade train motivated and skilled confectioners. Programmes are also organised for consumers, so that they can learn about the beauty in artisan confectioner work; by this the guild wishes to create demand for top quality products. Following Mr Selmeczi’s report some representatives of the trade were honoured with awards and diplomas. In the evening participants had a good time at the Confectioners Ball. //
