The MVI requests that the interests of the catering industry be enforced in certain government decisions
The Industry Board of Magyar Vendéglátók recommends maximizing the energy price in hospitality.
The MVI welcomed the recently published government decree regarding the price ceiling for electricity in the case of accommodation facilities, and at the same time initiated the inclusion of the hospitality sector in the circle of beneficiaries.
According to the government decree on the competitive pricing of electricity, from July 1 to December 31, 2023, among others, businesses providing accommodation services will pay a reduced price of a maximum net of 200 euros/megawatt hour for electricity. According to the Hungarian Catering Industry Association, the multifold increase in energy prices — in addition to accommodation providers — also affects catering establishments to a great extent.
At current prices, due to the effect of inflation, turnover in restaurants increased significantly in 2022, but its volume was still lower than in 2019, before the epidemic. Accommodation services and catering are closely related sectors from the point of view of tourism, and, like the former, catering is also one of the areas with high energy demand.
