The price of M-tray eggs at the packing point decreased the most

Based on data from the European Commission, EU (EU27) egg and egg product imports increased by 94 percent to almost 77,000 tons in January-October 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year. More than 81 percent of imports came from Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and Turkey.

The community’s egg and egg product exports decreased by 8 percent to 263,000 tons between January and October 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. The EU’s largest destination countries: the United Kingdom (44 percent share of exports), Japan (18 percent) and Switzerland (12 percent) together bought 193,000 tons of eggs and egg products from the community in the first ten months of 2023.

According to data from the European Commission, the packing point price of table eggs in the EU was 228 euros/100 kilograms in the first three weeks of 2024, 8 percent below the value of the same period of the previous year.

According to the data of AKI PÁIR, the packing point price of table eggs (M+L) from cage keeping in Hungary was HUF 54.98/piece in the first three weeks of 2024, which was 18.0 percent below the average price for the same period of 2023. Within this, the packing point price of size class M boxed eggs fell by 19.4 percent to HUF 56.47/piece, and that of size class L boxed eggs by 18.1 percent to HUF 68.41/piece. At the same time, the packing point price of M-tray eggs decreased by 21.1 percent to HUF 49.60/piece, and that of L-tray eggs by 11.5 percent to HUF 58.20/piece. The packing point price of table eggs (M+L) from deep-laying was HUF 62.93/piece in the first three weeks of 2024, which is 16.0 percent lower than the average price for the same period of 2023.
