According to the European Food Safety Authority, the larvae of the flour beetle is fit for human consumption
The EU Agency prepared its first inspection report on the basis of an application for EU authorization of foods derived from common flounder beetle larvae. The resolution gives a green light to the food industry’s use of the flour beetle, as the agency believes that insect larval preparations are safe, healthy and high in protein under certain growing and preparation conditions. The flour beetle larvae are fit for human consumption in whole or in powder form, they said. (MTI)
