The European Commission has set out a roadmap to improve the competitiveness of agriculture and the food industry
The European Commission published a roadmap on Wednesday to improve the competitiveness and attractiveness of the agricultural and food sector by simplifying regulations, promoting innovative solutions and promoting digitalisation.
According to a statement from Brussels, the roadmap aims to lay the foundations for several generations of farmers and agri-food players to make the sector attractive, competitive, resilient, future-oriented and fair.
It was announced that the EU Commission will prepare a comprehensive package to simplify the legal framework for agriculture this year and a European digital strategy for the agricultural sector, which aims to support the transition to digital technology.
The Commission states that agricultural production must be a sufficiently stable career path for young people to choose this profession. A fair income and more targeted budget support must also play a role in this.
To make the sector competitive and resilient, the EU would prioritise food security and sovereignty. This would include tightening production standards for imported products so that EU standards do not create a competitive disadvantage.
