On the road to the future with alternative drive vehicles
For Lidl sustainable operation is one of the most important goals for creating a liveable future, at the same time being aware that transporting goods has a significant impact on the environment.
Being a responsible company, Lidl put new alternative drive trucks into daily operation in autumn 2023. This means that three 18-tonne electric trucks, one 40-tonne electric truck and six 40-tonne LNG trucks do deliveries every day. The 18-tonne electric trucks don’t just drive but are also charged without emissions: they are charged at Lidl’s logistics centres with electricity from 100% renewable sources.
The 18-tonne trucks can drive around 120km on a single charge. With space for up to 18 pallets of goods, a single truck can serve several stores. The 40-tonne electric truck has a range of approximately 200km and can be recharged in 5 hours, but can be back on the road in as little as 2 hours using a rapid charger. The LNG-powered trucks have a range of around 750km on a full tank and 33 pallets of loading space.
Lidl Magyarország aims to achieve a 15% reduction in CO2 emissions (kg/km) by 2030 compared to 2021, by replacing conventional diesel trucks with alternative drive vehicles. Lidl is taking climate protection seriously and wishes to set a positive example in this field. (x)
