Employees are more active than at this time last year
Employee activity remains high in the Hungarian labor market: while the number of job advertisements decreased by 0.97% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year, the number of applications increased by nearly 5%, according to the quarterly analysis of Profession.hu.
The number of newly activated advertisements decreased in 11 counties and Budapest, while an increase was observed in 8 counties. The largest decline occurred in Heves (22%), Békés (21%) and Tolna (13%) counties, while the most significant increase was observed in Somogy (14%), Baranya (12%) and Csongrád-Csanád (10%) counties. The number of registered users in the Profession.hu database increased by 3.6% compared to the first quarter of 2024, but there were 6.7% fewer registered users than in the first quarter of 2024.
Significantly higher employee activity
The number of applications increased by 4.8% nationwide compared to the first quarter of 2024, and an increase can be observed in most cases when examined by county. Only four regions are exceptions: the decrease was 10% in Hajdú-Bihar, 7% in Békés, 7% in Baranya and 5% in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county. Employee activity increased at the highest rate in the counties of Csongrád-Csanád (28%), Fejér (18%) and Győr-Moson-Sopron (17%). Examined by region, the highest employee interest was shown in the categories of company management, HR and public administration, while the number of applicants decreased the most in agriculture, customer service, law and IT programming compared to the same period last year.
There are fewer new jobs in Budapest too
A slight decline of nearly 1% can be seen in the number of advertisements nationwide, meaning that companies are still recruiting cautiously. Nationally, the number of job advertisements in IT programming, engineering and SSC areas decreased the most. A similar trend can be observed in Budapest, where the most significant decline compared to the previous year is also characteristic of the three aforementioned areas. IT showed a 26%, SSC a 21% and engineering a 19% decrease in the number of job advertisements. Certain sectors expanded spectacularly: recruitment activity increased the most in the public administration (53%), hospitality (43%) and legal consulting (26%) segments.
