Study became more important than career
The world has changed dramatically in the workplace. Today, not only companies send employees to mandatory courses, but employees also demand that they learn and develop – and that the company also provides support in this. According to the K&H HR expert, the reason for this is that how marketable and future-proof our knowledge is plays a major role in achieving a sense of security and self-fulfillment. In addition to courses lasting several days or weeks, microlearning courses are increasingly gaining ground, that is, when you can acquire new knowledge in smaller, focused units.
It seems that on-the-job learning has become more important than a career. Based on Randstad’s most recent 2024 Workmonitor research, among workplace development opportunities, training and education came first, while career development is only in second place in terms of the demands placed on the workplace – regardless of generation. However, the opportunity for learning and development is still lacking in the majority of companies. Only 46 percent of the respondents indicated that their company provides assistance in acquiring future-proof knowledge – even though almost a quarter of the employees would even quit if it was not provided.
“For the majority of companies, the focus is still on financial benefits and ensuring work-life balance, and they do not pay enough attention to ensure that training opportunities are also part of the employer’s package. Indeed, if we provide opportunities for learning and acquiring new knowledge and skills, it is also beneficial for the company, because its employees will become more and more qualified. And it gives individuals a sense of security that in the extremely rapidly changing economic and technological environment, the acquisition of new skills and up-to-date knowledge of technologies ensures that their work and knowledge will be needed in the future as well.”
– said Leila Medvey, head of K&H HR.
