“Soproni has been there with people in the small and big moments for generations”

An interview with Nikos Zois, managing director of HEINEKEN Hungária.

– Soproni Brewery is celebrating its 130th anniversary this year. How is the company experiencing this milestone?

– The 130-year history of Soproni Brewery embodies both historical heritage and responsibility for the future: the passion and dedication of generations have created a value in Sopron, which we must preserve to the best of our ability for future generations.

– You have implemented a number of experience-based activities to celebrate the anniversary. What role do these play in brand building and how do they contribute to strengthening consumer loyalty?

– Soproni has been part of people’s lives for generations, in both small and big moments. We would like to express our gratitude with various fun activities and our new innovation, unfiltered lager Soproni Szűretlen, has a similar goal: to further strengthen consumer loyalty to Soproni products.

– In recent years Soproni has consistently built on local values, the use of domestic ingredients and cooperation with Hungarian producers. What results have you achieved in this area?

– Our main goal is to create reliable, high quality value for consumers by involving domestic producers, thereby supporting the local economy and sustainable operations. We are particularly proud that 100% of the barley used in Soproni products comes from Hungarian farmers.

– Sustainability is a key objective for the HEINEKEN Group. How does this approach manifest in the Soproni brand?

– Soproni Brewery was one of the first HEINEKEN breweries in Europe to launch a large-scale investment programme aimed at achieving carbon neutrality in our operations by 2030. In 2024 we recycled 99.2% of the waste and by-products generated during production.

– What role do you see for Soproni in the future of the domestic beer market and in the HEINEKEN portfolio?

– Experimenting with new flavours has defined our entire history and we will continue to work to surprise Hungarian beer lovers with exciting product innovations, such as the limited edition, unfiltered Soproni Szűretlen Lager. (x)
