Shell enters the e-mobility sector in Hungary
The transportation sector is responsible for 30 percent of the world’s energy use. Shell is investing in low-carbon fuels and e-mobility to help reach the climate goals agreed on in the Paris Agreement. Hungary has one of the most developed electric vehicle sectors in Central and Eastern Europe. This is the reason why Shell started focusing on e-mobility in our region in Hungary.
Shell opened its first e-vehicle charging station – in cooperation with IONITY – in the Balatonkeresztúr rest stop of the M7 motorway (on the side that goes to Budapest). The rapid chargers can recharge new-generation e-vehicles in just 10-15 minutes. Shell plans to install more IONITY charging stations on the other side of the M7 motorway and on the M0 motorway.
Shell also launches the Shell Recharge brand in Hungary. Hungary is the 5th country in Europe and the 9th in the world where drivers can use the company’s private label chargers. The 1st Shell Recharge point is on the M7 at Székesfehérvár and the other is in the Gelej rest stop on the M3. Calculating with a 50kW rapid charging capacity, a vehicle can be recharged from 0 percent to 80 percent in about 30 minutes. After a test period Shell plans to open further Shell Recharge points in 2021. (x)
