Extraordinary general meeting
POPAI Hungary Association held its annual general meeting online. The award ceremony of the Hungarian leg of the Shop! Global Awards contest was also part of the programme.
Members first listened to the 2019 financial statements and approved it. Then they gave a green light to the current presidency continuing its work for another 3 years. Ágnes Péczely-Tóth, marketing and sales manager of Digitálisreklám.hu Kft. was elected member of the board of supervisors.
Product design at the highest level
After the general meeting András Varga, a professor of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) gave a presentation on product design. Using lots of photos and videos, he introduced the most successful ideas from the last 25 years, from the planning phase to practical implementation. From medical equipment through furniture to in-store displays, participants could see many unique, original and exciting solutions. Seeing all of this, it doesn’t come as a surprise that already two students of Mr Varga have won the Shop! Global Awards Student Design competition.
World champion Zewa display
Four winners of the 2019-es POPAI Student Design Awards represented Hungary at the international Shop! Global Awards. In the Student Design category Boldizsár Rajkai proved to be the best with his Zewa windmill display. The awards that had come straight from Chicago were presented to BME student Mr Rajkai and Essity’s customer marketing manager Réka Nagy online.
Tomi Trunk: More than a prodigy
Seventeen-year old author, YouTuber, international skier, radio show host, rapper and sneaker expert Tomi Trunk did a presentation together with Zsófia Lakatos, PR director of Emerald. The title of the presentation was ‘Misconceptions about generation Z’ and it shed light on the fact that humour, online focus, brand drive, purpose orientation and dedication to good causes are the means for reaching members of generation Z effectively.
Student display competition 2020
Announcing the new POPAI Student Design Awards competition was also on the programme. The main sponsors are Zewa and SPAR Group and entries can be submitted online on the POPAI website until 15 January 2021. Total prize money is already HUF 400,000 and the two winners will represent Hungary in the Student Design category at the Shop! Global Awards international POP competition.
How does the contest go?
The POPAI Student Design Awards takes two directions: András Varga’s product design group at BME prepare the entries as part of the semester’s work, while any Hungarian designer student from another university can enter the competition online if they follow the rules that can be read on the popai.hu website. The two paths meet when POPAI Hungary member companies vote on the best display. The main prize is a HUF 100,000 SPAR voucher.
