Hungary is well-known and recognized worldwide, due to its outstanding honeys, thanks to the work of twenty thousand Hungarian beekeepers. Apiary is one of the most successful sectors of the Hungarian agriculture – Fazekas Sándor said on Monday in Tiszafüred at the handover ceremony of the Tiszaigar-based API-GAR Social Cooperative’s honey plant.
Fazekas Sándor Minister of Agriculture emphasized that the Hungarian beekeepers produce 22-24 thousand tons of honey a year with 1.1 million bee families. More than three quarters of the produced honey is exported to mainly Western European markets. 40 percent of the EU’s honey trade comes from Hungary and annual revenues of honey export is around 60 million euros – he added.
