Finalists of Hungary’s Cake 2024 competition – Picture of the day

For the eighteenth time, the Hungarian Confectionery Industry Association announced the hugely popular “Cake of Hungary” competition. competition. The first round of judging took place live in front of a professional audience at the SIRHA Budapest International Food Industry and HORECA exhibition – here are the cakes selected for the final.

For the competition, the Ipartestület expects cakes based on the traditions of Hungarian confectionery, mainly based on Hungarian ingredients.
The named cakes were displayed in display cases, and the professional audience and members of the press could see them. During the judging, competitors and visitors could see and hear the evaluation of the competition works, and the audience could follow the event from the auditorium with the help of a projector.
The topic of the 2024 competition was “superfoods”, the organizers wanted to draw attention to Hungarian ingredients with rich intrinsic values. It was possible to name it with new, creative cakes whose distinctive, defining flavors are made up of the domestic ingredients listed in the ingredient baskets below, which are considered “superfoods”.
At least two raw materials from the following raw material baskets had to be used:
• berries: blueberries, blackcurrants, rose hips, blackberries,
• grains, seeds: hemp seed, flax seed, spelt, millet,
• vegetables: beetroot, pumpkin, carrot, sweet potato,
• oily seeds: walnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds, hazelnuts.
Additional ingredients recommended for use were: sea buckthorn, rowan, sardine, honey, poppy, gooseberry, strawberry, raspberry, prune, blue grape, dark chocolate, oats.
The competition received 31 cake entries from all over the country.
The creativity of the entrants’ confectioners is praised by the fact that all of the compulsory and almost all of the suggested ingredients were included in the named cakes in different combinations. The use of beets, carrots, poppies, pumpkins, blueberries and walnuts was especially popular.
