The leadership of Coldiretti, the largest Italian agricultural interest representation, was received by István Jakab, president of MAGOSZ, and Balázs Győrffy, president of the National Chamber of Agriculture. According to Ettore Prandini, the president of Coldiretti, a change is needed in the agricultural policy of the European Union, since the unrealistic expectations formulated in the Green Deal will lead to a drastic deterioration of the competitiveness of European farmers, and the place of healthy food will be replaced by imported goods of uncertain origin. This is inadmissible and we must act against it at the European level, unitedly, which is why it is important to strengthen Italian-Hungarian interest representation cooperation. In his opinion, the principle of reciprocity should also be included in free trade agreements, so the same expectations should be demanded of products coming from outside the Union.

Agreeing with the words of the president of Coldiretti, István Jakab, the president of MAGOSZ – as during their previous negotiations in Italy – emphasized the importance of cooperation, stating that the European interest representation association, Copa-Cogeca, must also show a much more decisive action in the EU during negotiations, since the events of the past period, such as the German farmers’ demonstrations, the protest actions of the Polish and Romanian producers or even the Hungarian farmers’ demonstration in Záhony, show that the existence of the sector is at stake. The attitude with which the European Union makes decisions without impact studies, which lead to the impotence of EU farmers, is unacceptable. That is why it is crucial that the European interest representatives establish closer cooperation with each other, and this may take place between Coldiretti and MAGOSZ in the near future.

According to Balázs Győrffy, the president of the National Chamber of Agrarian Economy, it is unacceptable that Ukrainian products can be imported into the EU without any restrictions

They can also do this without having to comply with EU regulations at all. If Ukraine were to join the European Union, the system of the Common Agricultural Policy would be fundamentally reorganized, with which a significant part of the EU’s agricultural subsidies would go to the giant companies operating in Ukraine but with a Western background. We have written to the leaders of the European Commission several times, explaining that the anti-farmer green measures put European farmers at a serious competitive disadvantage, and that third countries are granted free access to the European market without any regulations, but we always received a negative response from the European Commission.

Italy has taken a stand against artificial meat

During the meeting, Luigi Scordamaglia, CEO of Filiera Italia, explained the Italian legislation that had recently entered into force, which banned the production of laboratory meat, for which 2 million signatures had previously been collected. Coldiretti also plays an important role in helping small producers reach the market, for this purpose it has established cooperation between producers, processors and traders at the level of the product line, and they also give special support to small producer markets. The organizations agreed to continue negotiations and joint cooperation for the benefit of the farmers.
