The government places special emphasis on environmental protection
The government places special emphasis on the formation of an environmental protection attitude, on the programs that help this – said the Deputy Secretary of State for Environmental Protection of the Ministry of Energy on Wednesday in Budapest, at the II. At the National Attitude Formation Conference.
Nikoletta Keszthelyi explained in her presentation: the positive attitude of the Hungarian population towards environmental protection can be well founded. He recalled that according to Századvég’s research, environmental protection is important to 97 percent of the population, of which 63 percent consider it completely important. The deputy state secretary emphasized that environmental problems cannot be handled only at the official level, it is necessary to have the appropriate attitude of the population and companies, and to shape it.
The conference was organized by the Association of Environmental Protection Service Providers and Manufacturers in connection with the Sustainability Theme Week.
Nikoletta Keszthelyi reminded that the 5th National Environmental Protection Program (NPP) was adopted by the Parliament last December, its important goal is to improve Hungary’s environmental condition and to create harmony between economic growth and environmental protection. As a result of the program, among other things, they expect to be able to strengthen the circular economy by increasing waste utilization and using environmentally friendly technologies. At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that not only the government, but also the population can do a lot, for example against overconsumption or air pollution. Instead of information chaos, the deputy state secretary called awareness of the information on the basis of which consumers can make well-founded decisions particularly important in shaping public attitudes.
The phenomenon of greenwashing appeared
Regarding companies, he touched on the following: regulatory and consumer expectations were recognized by the market, and the phenomenon of “greenwashing” appeared, when companies publish false information about themselves in order to create an environmentally conscious impression. Consumers must have adequate knowledge in order to be able to distinguish the real trademarks appearing on products from other, misleading claims, he pointed out.
In her presentation, the deputy state secretary highlighted educational programs that increase environmental awareness
In addition to the Green Kindergarten tender, the water-related environmental education program (BISEL) and the school garden program, he drew attention to the attitude-forming program called “Borrowed Air”, which started this year, in which children receive practical information about the causes, effects and possibilities of reducing air pollution.
Nikoletta Keszthelyi also said that TeSzedd started in time for Earth Day! – Voluntarily, the action for a clean Hungary, the largest voluntary waste collection program in the country, in which, according to the data, many more people than last year participate, the results will be compiled after the end of the action on April 28.
