Challenges of changing careers – job-ready candidates are sought for many positions
A career change can happen out of necessity due to changed market or personal circumstances, however, many professionals are driven by curiosity, the need to learn, or the desire to break away from the usual, already routine work, or maybe they would start something new due to professional burnout. Half of the job seekers do not narrow their options to the industry in which they currently work or worked last, but are also interested in available positions in other fields, and nearly a third of them are specifically looking for their new job in another sector.
Career starters typically start their careers with the determination to make the most of themselves in their chosen field. In practice, however, this initial idea is often interrupted by a career change. Profession.hu’s recent quarterly representative research shows that half of the job seekers (49%) are also interested in available positions outside their own sector, and a third (32%) would change their career, so they specifically browse the job advertisements of other sectors.
Changing careers is not easy
As an employee, it is not easy to make the switch. In large companies and multinational companies, there may be more opportunities for in-house retraining and applying for a new position with the support of the employer, but at the same time as changing jobs, changing careers may encounter obstacles.
“They are looking for specialists who are already ready for many positions, who come from the same field, with the same industry knowledge, fresh practical knowledge and are ready to work immediately after admission, so there is no need for their training. It also depends on the position and the person, but it takes approximately one year for a new colleague to be able to work completely independently, like his colleagues who have been working there for several years.”
– explains Nikoletta Szigeti, business manager of Profession Services.
