A quarter of companies hire new colleagues based on employee recommendations
In our country, employee referral programs are often still frowned upon, assuming that the colleagues hired in this way did not win the given position based on their professional merits.
In fact, however, in today’s labor shortage environment, it is not only an indispensable, but an undeniably effective recruitment tool: on average, professionals arriving by recommendation start work within just one month, and almost half of them commit to the given company for more than 4 years. How should professional recommendations be included in the company culture and why will they become more and more important in the labor market turned upside down by artificial intelligence? We looked for answers to the most current questions with András Avidor, business development and networking expert, head of BNI Hungary.
The above-mentioned doubts prove in themselves that the system of employee recommendations is not a new phenomenon at all, but in our country it is still confused with the terms “kiss” and “protection”, which assume that these employees can fill the position simply because of their acquaintance given position. At the same time, more and more companies are experiencing firsthand that, in a market environment with a strong lack of competence and labor, the costs and time of recruitment can be significantly reduced if the job position is filled through a professional recommendation. New colleagues who arrive in this way join in just 29 days on average and are five times more likely to be suitable for the job – it’s no wonder that 82% of companies have now incorporated recommendations into their recruitment strategy.
