Poultry price increase was twice as big as the pig price rise
According to data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH), Hungary’s poultry meat export increased by 3.1% in volume to more than 31 thousand tonnes, and in value it grew by 37% to HUF 35.3bn in the January-February 2023 period, in comparison with the same period of the previous year.

Poultry meat import was up 14.4% in volume at 15,000 tonnes, and it augmented by 54.4% in value to nearly HUF 15bn in the same time period.
Data from the Market Price Information System (PÁIR) of the Research Institute of Agricultural Economics (AKI) reveals that the live-weight producer price of broiler chicken in Hungary jumped 41.8% to HUF 514/kg, and the price of slaughter turkey rose by 46.6% to HUF 702/kg in the first 18 weeks of 2023, compared to the same period in 2022. The producer price of domestically bred slaughter pig – excluding VAT and transport – was HUF 879/kg (hot carcass weight) in April 2023, up 22% compared to the average price a year earlier. //
