Purchasing power divided in the case of fruits and vegetables
A good assortment of fresh products is an especially important consideration for Hungarians in choosing a store. According to the Nielsen ShopperTrends survey, spending on fresh products grew substantially in 2007. An increasing proportion of fresh products like fruits and vegetables are bought in modern stores, but marketplaces and greengrocers also remain popular. Bulk purchases are most often made in marketplaces. 15 percent of consumers buy fruits and vegetables most often from greengrocers, while this figure is 21 percent for hyper markets. Small stores are still preferred by 9 percent. Bakery stores were visited by average shoppers on only seven occasion per month in 2007. However, butcher’s shops continue to remain popular with four visits per month by average shoppers.
