Rossmann goes green: customers are encouraged to buy digital loyalty cards
Rossmann is launching a new environmentally conscious initiative in which it encourages its customers to replace their traditional plastic cards with a digital solution. With this step, the drugstore chain further strengthens its sustainability strategy, which focuses on reducing the environmental load and prioritizing digital solutions.
Digital cards: on the way to sustainability
Rossmann already announced in January that it will not issue new plastic cards for the Rossmann+ loyalty program from 2024. More than 2 million members are currently participating in the program, and another 300,000 new members will join in 2023. Starting this year, you can only register in the program with a virtual card, which allows the company to save the annual production of more than half a million plastic cards and thus the emission of nearly 3 tons of plastic.
Customers are encouraged to make an environmentally conscious switch
Karolina Szabó, Rossmann’s CRM and customer service manager, said that the company is confident that by collecting traditional cards, they can further encourage customers to try digital solutions. The initiative not only contributes to reducing the use of plastic, but also modernizes the customer experience, making it easier and more convenient to use the loyalty program.
The future: digital and sustainable
Rossmann’s initiative fits well into the global trend that prioritizes sustainability and digital solutions. The company’s long-term goal is to reduce its environmental footprint and set an example in the retail sector. The transition to digital loyalty cards is an important step on this path, which not only protects the environment, but also offers new opportunities for customers.
