Weekday shopping more important than before
Six months after the ban on Sunday trading was abolished, much fewer card payments are realised on the seventh day of the week than before. The latest data from Mastercard also reveal that a trend shift is taking place in retail trade: the big shop at weekends is becoming less important and weekdays are busier in grocery stores. Before shops had to stay closed on Sundays, Friday and Saturday had an 18-percent share in bank card spending. After the ban was lifted, Sunday failed to reach the pre-ban level and Saturday spending was 4 percentage points lower than before.
