With a competitive agriculture for the development of rural regions
Hungary has been implementing its largest agricultural and food industry development programmes over the past decade.
The Rural Development Program (RDP) and the subsequent Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan (CAP SP) together provide development resources that lay the foundations for the long-term competitiveness of Hungarian agriculture and food industry, while also improving the quality of life in rural areas.
The RDP’s total budget was HUF 2,942.8 billion and approximately 400,000 applications were granted financial support, from which 63% was spent on machinery purchases and plant upgrades. More than 1,300 food processing plants received development subsidies totalling nearly HUF 310 billion. 90% of renewable energy developments were solar panel systems, enabling nearly 9,000 rural farms and households to switch to environmentally friendly electricity generation.
The CAP SP replaced the VP in 2023 and will go on until 2027. The total budget of the programme is HUF 5,651 billion, from which HUF 3,153 billion will be allocated to rural development. Up until now more than 57,000 grant decisions have been made under the CAP ST, with 43 calls for proposals totalling HUF 1,475 billion. (x)
