Together with its customers, ALDI supported those in need
Social responsibility is extremely important to ALDI, the defining element of which is environmental awareness and social sensitivity. The company has been doing important social work for years through joint fundraising with its committed partners, customers and employees.
ALDI Hungary supports the work of charitable organizations in numerous areas. Thanks to his attention-grabbing communication, donations, joint collections with his colleagues and customers, these organizations receive even more help in critical and sensitive periods for them.
Food rescue with the Hungarian Food Bank Association
ALDI has been cooperating with the Hungarian Food Bank Association since 2016. Thanks to this partnership, food that is no longer commercially available but still suitable for consumption reaches the needy through the Association. In 2022, the department store chain participated for the fifth time in the Food Bank Association’s Christmas Fundraiser, in the framework of which 2,900 volunteers of the charitable organization collected the offerings of customers in 156 ALDI stores, so donations were made possible in many stores across the country. As a result, around 110 tons of donations, worth nearly HUF 90 million, were received from ALDI stores.
“We are grateful to ALDI’s stores and customers for their contributions during our Christmas non-perishable food collection drive, for their helpfulness has not diminished even in the difficult economic situation. With the collected donations, we were able to provide support not only during the Christmas period, but even during the colder weeks of January, the needy receive it,” said Balázs Cseh, president of the Food Bank.
Collection for animal shelters
ALDI also plays a role in fulfilling social tasks related to the welfare of animals. During its pet food collection campaigns, its customers had the opportunity to donate pet food to animal protection associations and animal shelters in difficult situations. The last fundraising campaign of the year, lasting almost a week, was jointly organized by the company with the Ant Community Foundation. The Ant Society has been helping shelters and animal protection organizations since 2010, they are in contact with hundreds of organizations nationwide, and they primarily try to provide material assistance to shelters and organizations. As a result of the jointly organized national collection, 19 pallets of pet food were offered, to which ALDI donated an additional 1 ton of pet food. The 11.5 tons of donations were delivered from 5 depots of the Ant Community Foundation to shelters and associations located in different parts of the country. With donations from ALDI customers, it was possible to provide for more than 5,200 animals.
ALDI planted nearly 1,500 trees
It is extremely important for ALDI Hungary to keep the impact of its activities on the environment as low as possible and to introduce sustainable, innovative solutions. In addition to its many unique environmental protection measures, the company participated in the 10 Million Wood Foundation project in order to maintain and increase the biodiversity of forests. In the last two months of 2022, ALDI planted 1,464 trees as part of a joint activity with Magyar Termék Nonprofit Kft.
For the seventh year now, ALDI employees participated in a Christmas charity sale
In any case, the company’s employees are happy to participate in collections and take up issues affecting various communities. On Christmas 2022, ALDI employees, in cooperation with the National Association of Large Families and the Children’s Meals Foundation, supported families and children in need with 300 Christmas packages, making many children’s wishes come true. For nearly 30 years, the Children’s Feeding Foundation has been working dedicatedly to help the needy, children in difficult queues, provide assistance in training outside of school, and support children’s development with health services. The National Association of Large Families is Hungary’s largest civil family organization, with approximately 15,774 families currently members directly or through member associations. The association operates through 188 local communities throughout the country, of the 7 regional centers, ALDI Hungary supported the Northern Hungarian region last year.
Support for Clown Doctors
Clown doctors visit many children’s hospitals and social institutions around the world, bringing smiles to the faces of many children and adults. The goal of the team of the Dr. Bohóc Smile Service Foundation is to make the little patients and their parents forget the hospital environment and show a different way of healing with their activities. In November 2022, ALDI supported the Dr. Bohóc Smile Service Foundation with HUF 1 million.
