V4 Agricultural Chambers: united action to protect farmers
The agricultural chambers of the Visegrad countries – the National Council of Agricultural Chambers of Poland (KRIR), the Hungarian National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK), the Agricultural Chamber of the Czech Republic (AKČR) and the Slovak Chamber of Agriculture and Food (SPPK) – regularly coordinate in order to take joint action. This time, they held their regular meeting in Slovakia, at which the V4 agricultural chambers discussed current sectoral issues and adopted a joint statement.
The V4 agricultural chambers most firmly reject the proposals presented by the European Commission on the radical transformation of the Common Agricultural Policy. The process was not transparent, and the interests of farmers were not adequately represented. They strongly protest against the abolition of area-based subsidies and the radical restriction and deliberate impossibility of animal husbandry. The representatives of V4 agricultural producers agree with the conclusions of the meeting of the Council of Ministers – initiated by Hungary. They ask the European Commission to develop its vision for future EU agriculture on the basis of these documents and to determine the conditions for the future CAP.
In addition, the V4 call on decision-makers to return the EU to the pre-war quota system for Ukrainian goods
They also draw attention to the fact that EU agriculture must not be disadvantaged in trade negotiations with third countries, and agricultural products arriving in the EU must comply with EU production and sustainability standards. The V4 agricultural chambers have serious reservations about the trade agreement between the EU and Mercosur countries, which would not only harm farmers but also pose a serious food safety risk to consumers.
