Nébih opened a street exhibition
A street exhibition of works on the topic of food waste opened on August 30, 2022. II. the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) in its district headquarters. The thought-provoking drawings were selected from the best entries received in the summer drawing competition of the office’s No Leftovers program.
Food waste is one of the most significant sustainability problems, which raises not only environmental but also moral and economic issues. About 1.8 million tons of food waste is produced in Hungary every year. A significant proportion of this – about a third – is produced in households. We produce an average of 65 kg of food waste per capita every year in our homes alone, half of which could be avoided. If we put the annual wastage of the entire population on the balance sheet, we get such a quantity that we could provide a full meal for half a million people for 1 year.
The aim of the street exhibition, which runs until the end of October, is to address the passers-by lingering in front of the drawings, and to encourage them to think about how they could have prevented it from ending up in the trash before they throw away food next time.
