New changes in the EKÁER system
Having an Electronic Public Road Trade Control (EKÁER) number is obligatory even if the total weight of a vehicle only becomes more than 3.5 tons when it is loaded over its capacity. This step has become necessary as the tax authorities have found that many freight forwarders try to avoid paying a road toll by operating smaller, but overloaded trucks. Another important change in rules is that as of 1 August 2016, transportation companies must make sure that the so-called ‘tax authority lock’ stays intact until National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) staff take it off – those who break this rule can be fined up to HUF 1 million.
