Raw material producers can expect new subsidies
The Ministry for Rural Development made public new subsidy categories for farmers working in the sheep, rabbit, sugar beet, seasoning paprika, grape and fruit sectors. With the new subsidies the ministry’s goal is to sustain the diversity of agricultural production, to improve the job situation in rural areas and to make certain agricultural products more competitive. For instance the ministry earmarked HUF 100 million to subsidise livestock farming in 2014; for each new breeding rabbit farmers are entitled to HUF 2,000 in funding, for which they can apply at the Agricultural and Rural Development Agency (MVH) in January and June. HUF 600 million worth of support will be available for sugar beet farming. Farmers can apply for funding between 1 and 31 May 2014 at MVH. Farmers producing high quality seasoning paprika can apply for funding from a budget of HUF 170 million. They can apply for subsidy at MVH in May, the limit is 75 percent of their seed grain costs.
