A new type of cabbage is trendy now in Europe, the demand for it is huge
The new, pointy and purple type of cabbage referred to as “violetti” was created a few years ago by Dutch breeders by crossing the traditional pointed cabbage and a red cabbage, reports Haszon.hu.
According to FreshPlaza, the relatively new vegetable is less dense than common cabbages, and one head is roughly 500-800 grams. It is a very versatile vegetable that can be used easily and quickly. Various dishes such as salads can be prepared from it, and it is also suitable for preservation.
In recent years, the demand for it has typically been greater than the supply in Europe. In particular, the supermarkets of the Scandinavian countries claimed it. However, its propagation got off to a rather difficult start, so producers could not keep up with orders.
Agroinform notes that it is more likely that there will be enough of it on the markets this year, as it will be grown on more than 600 hectares in Portugal, the Netherlands and Spain all year round under both conventional and organic conditions.
