A new food has been also approved in Hungary, the pili nut
The Commission’s executive order (EU) 2023/267 on Canarium ovatum Engl. on authorizing the placing on the market of dried walnuts as a traditional food from a third country and amending Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470.

The company DOMENICODELUCIA SPA (hereinafter: applicant) notified the Commission that Canarium ovatum Engl. wants to market its walnuts as a traditional food from a third country on the EU market. The applicant is Canarium ovatum Engl. dried nuts intended for the general population, for self-consumption.
The new food is safe
In its scientific opinion, the European Food Safety Authority concluded that Canarium ovatum Engl. the available data regarding the composition of the nut and the tradition of its requested use do not raise safety concerns, so the Commission authorizes the placing on the market of the new food. However, the food label must state that Canarium ovatum Engl. dried nuts may cause allergic reactions in consumers known to be allergic to cashews and walnuts.
The Annex to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470 is amended in accordance with the Annex to this Regulation. The decree enters into force on the twentieth day following its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union (February 8, 2023).
