January numbers of the Tourism Business Index
The Tourism Business Index stood at -18 points in January 2023 (interpreted on a scale between -100 and +100), which means that the players in the sector continue to perceive their situation as deteriorating. Compared to December, however, the value of the indicator increased by four points.
As a result of the gradual implementation of the government support package, favorable end-of-year traffic figures, decreasing energy prices on the world market, milder winter weather and the reduction of the threat of a European recession, the value of the index moved in a positive direction in the accommodation service and hospitality sector, while in the other tourism sector it only slightly decreased.
Regarding the evolution of the number of employees for the next three months, the research measured 0 points for the entire sector, which means that the companies will not change their workforce. However, in contrast to the previous months, an increase in the number of employees (+7 points) is expected in the hospitality sector during the quarter. 82 percent of tourism companies reported an increase in their prices and 91 percent in their operating costs over the past three months.
