Carp is still the main character in the Christmas menu of Hungarians
In this Christmas season as well, domestic fish producers will delight consumers with high-quality domestic fish. Carp, which is still the favorite fish species of Hungarians, has a special role this year. Thanks to the favorable weather, which was kinder this year after last year’s severe drought, the domestic fishing industry enjoyed excellent conditions for successful production.
Based on what was said at the joint press conference of the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK), the Hungarian Aquaculture and Fisheries Association (MA-HAL), and the Hungarian National Fishing Association (MOHOSZ), the rainy weather allowed the fish ponds to have adequate water levels, thus ensuring an optimal living environment for the fish. .
The decrease in feed prices had a positive effect on the reduction of production costs. At the same time, since last year many pond farms still used the more expensive feed, the decrease in feed prices will be more pronounced in the prices of fish next year.
In addition, the fish producers provided consumers with good news: the price of this year’s Christmas fish may be lower compared to last year’s prices. Traders will be able to ask HUF 1,790-2,300 for a kilo of live carp, while the price of live catfish will be around HUF 4,000. The varied offer will be wide again this year, in addition to live fish, customers can also choose from Hungarian fish in processed form – horseshoe crab, fillet, bone, offal.
